Limerick has been without refuse service, street-cleaning and municipal house maintenance for three days as a result of unofficial industrial action by more than 200 workers employed by the corporation.
A spokesman at the City Hall said the action followed the suspension with pay of a craftsman while an allegation of serious misconduct was being investigated. More than 200 craftsmen and operatives who failed to report for work in sympathy with the man were taken off the payroll.
