A row is developing over the decision of An Bord Pleanala to refuse planning permission for a £6 million multi-storey car-park for Wexford town.

The Planning Appeals Board has rejected the proposed development by Staf fords, a Wexford town company, because of concern over a 19th-century grain store on Paul Quay which is listed for preservation.

The board upheld an appeal by the heritage service, Duchas, against the decision of Wexford Corporation to grant planning permission earlier this year.

The Planning Board ruled that the 396-space car park would "seriously injure the visual integrity" of the grain store adjoining the site.
