Dissident republicans have been blamed for a bomb attack on a British Territorial Army base in south Belfast.

A large hole was blown in the perimeter fence of the base at Haywood Avenue in the Ormeau area yesterday.

Two bombs were left inside a hold-all bag that was attached to the fence at head height. One of the devices exploded blowing a large hole in the fence.

The British army carried out two controlled explosions on the other device.
