There are fears that the last district court on an offshore island may have closed its doors for the last time.
Kilronan District Court on Inis Mór, the largest of the three Aran islands off the Galway coast, may be closed as part of a cost-cutting measure.
The court sits just four times a year and with the December and March schedules usually falling victim to poor weather, it is feared last Friday’s sitting could have been the last. A decision on the closure of a number of courthouses in Co Galway is expected in the coming months.
