A great white shark killed an American diver today in the second fatal shark attack off Western Australia in 12 days.
A police spokesman said the victim was below water when a witness on the dive boat "saw a large amount of bubbles".
The body surfaced with "obviously traumatic fatal injuries", he said.
The shark was described as a 3m great white.
The attack happened off the tourist spot of Rottnest Island in overcast conditions. Sharks attack more often in cloudy weather.
Police said the 32-year-old American was living in Australia on a work visa. His identity and hometown were not available.
Rottnest Island is about 20km from a popular Perth city beach where a man was believed taken by a great white on October 10th.
