An Aer Lingus plane landed at Dublin airport yesterday morning after being forced to divert to an air base in eastern Canada early on Sunday while on en route to Ireland from Chicago.

Flight EI124, which was carrying 303 passengers and 12 crew, landed at Dublin airport at 8am yesterday.

The aircraft had been diverted to Goose Bay air force base in the eastern Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador after the smell of burning plastic was reported in the cabin several hours into the flight.

Aer Lingus engineers were flown from Dublin to Goose Bay abord a re-routed Dublin-Boston flight on Sunday. Spare parts were fitted to the Airbus A330 aircraft before it was declared serviceable for the return flight.
