English Electrical retailer Dixons is set to create 10,000 jobs in Europe over the next five years.
The group expects to recruit around 1,000 new full-time staff a year across Britain for the next five years, and a similar number in Europe.
When contacted, Dixons told ireland.comit was not yet clear where the jobs would be created or if any would be created in Ireland.
The news comes as Dixons continues to expand on the Continent, with plans to open more PC City stores.
It has stores in Italy, France and Spain and plans to open three or four more in Italy during the next three to four months, and a similar number in France within the next six to eight months.
It also plans to open branches of its computer store ElectroWorld in Budapest, Hungary; and Prague in the Czech Republic, before Christmas.
The retailer has also expressed an interest in acquiring Darty, the France-based electrical retailer belonging to rival Kingfisher, and Media Markt in Germany.
In September the group announced that like-for-like sales during the 19 weeks to September 8th were up 6 per cent and were ahead of City forecasts.
