DNA tests hold up murder case

A man accused of killing at Ballyfermot schoolgirl last Halloween appeared in Kilmainham Court yesterday.

Mr Keith Kelly (18), of Colepark Road, Ballyfermot, is charged with murdering Melanie Gleeson in the grounds of the Dominican Convent, Ballyfermot, on October 31st last.

Judge J.P. McDonnell said the case had been going on for, more than three months and asked why the book of evidence was not ready.

Sgt Gabriel O'Gara said there were statements from almost 200 witnesses in the book and they were still awaiting the results of DNA tests.

The judge remanded the defendant, who is on bail of £10,000, until March 22nd.
