A DOCTOR in the northeast has been arrested by gardaí in relation to the alleged viewing of child pornography.

This is the second time in as many years the man has been the subject of such an investigation.

In the previous investigation into allegations that he was in possession of child pornography, a computer in his home was seized and he took leave of absence from his place of work.

He was interviewed as gardaí were preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Last year however the DPP decided there was insufficient evidence to bring a prosecution against the man. It is understood he has been placed on administrative leave by the Health Service Executive, although a spokeswoman declined to comment.

The present Garda investigation is being led by detectives from Drogheda. It is suspected the material was being viewed at an internet cafe in the town and because of this a computer has been seized from it. Gardaí also searched the man's home and seized a laptop computer.

There is nothing to suggest any criminal offence in relation to the operators of the cafe.
