A team of doctors sent to examine the Siamese twins, Jodie and Mary, "broadly" agrees with the medical recommendation that they should be separated, the Appeal Court was told yesterday, Rachel Donnelly reports.

Judges hearing an appeal by the twins' parents against a High Court decision that they should be separated ordered a second medical opinion on the conclusion reached by doctors treating the twins at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester. Mr David Harris, QC, appointed by the Official Solicitor, who is representing the interests of Mary, told the court that doctors from Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London had examined the twins and in "broad outline" supported the doctors at St Mary's who believed they should be separated. The case was adjourned until next Wednesday.
