SEVEN DAYS:A glance at the week that was
A hunter became the hunted last weekend when an excited dog accidentally shot its owner in the buttocks. The unidentified 46-year-old American was hunting ducks with a friend on Great Salt Lake in Utah when his pet canine stepped on a shotgun left in the boat, shooting the man, who was standing nearby.
Police have confirmed that the incident was not a hoax. The hunter was taken to the hospital but is said to have no serious injuries except to his pride.
The man put down his gun in the boat while he set up decoys to draw ducks to the area. The dog jumped around the boat and on to the gun, sending 27 pellets of birdshot into the man's behind. Kevin Potter, of the sheriff's office, said he did not know if the safety catch was on the weapon at the time. He added that it would not have been impossible for the dog to have disengaged the catch before discharging the gun.
