A BUNCRANA man who took £60,000 from his father's post office in 1993 has had the balance of his three year sentence suspended by Dublin Circuit, Criminal Court.
Wade Carl McGinley, who suggested he had been intimidated into doing so by paramilitaries, drove two miles to a wood outside Buncrana and hid the post office bag containing the money under a tree. But gardai found it and replaced it with another post office bag. After a three day wait, McGinley was arrested as he dug up the bag, Judge Cyril Kelly was told.
McGinley (24), Upper Main Street, Buncrana, pleaded guilty last year to the theft of £60,200 from his father's post office on December 7th, 1993.
He was given a three year sentence by Mr Justice Moriarty who ordered that he be released after a fortnight under strict probation supervision. Judge Kelly said Mr Justice Moriarty's intention was to suspend the balance of the sentence if the defendant behaved.
