Former IDA chief executive Sean Dorgan has been appointed to the board of Ulster Bank as deputy chairman, subject to regulatory approval.

Dr Alan Gillespie Ulster Bank Group chairman said he was delighted Mr Dorgan was joining the board.

"He brings wide experience of business and public policy throughout a distinguished career and is well equipped to contribute advice and guidance to Ulster Bank as we continue to build our business throughout the island of Ireland."

Mr Dorgan led the IDA for eight years and previously held positions in a number of government departments responsible for industry and trade.

He is also chairman of Tesco Ireland and a member of the boards of Short Bros; FBD Holdings and Fineos Corporation. He chairs the governing board of Dublin Institute of Technology.
