BBC and RTE are jointly broadcasting a series tomorrow. The BBC is calling it Endgame in Ireland, RTE is calling it Endgame in Ireland? Every major player in the Irish story has been interviewed. Albert Reynolds tells of Sinn Fein coming to him and saying, yes, you can have a ceasefire, but there is a condition: we want a US visa for Joe Cahill. Reynolds eventually gets through to Bill Clinton, on holiday in Martha's Vineyard, and asks if he will look after Cahill. "Oh my God," says Clinton, "have you seen that guy's CV?" Reynolds replies: "No, I didn't, but I don't have to because, I mean, I don't expect the IRA to be producing saints anyway. And never did".
The producers tell me footage includes Clinton doing an uncanny impersonation of Reynolds.
