Allianz League round-up:Any hopes Down had of exacting some small measure of revenge on Cork for their All-Ireland defeat were ruthlessly put down by the Rebels as they recorded a 3-17 to 0-15 win under the lights at Pairc Ui Rinn tonight.
Defeated by just a single point in last September’s showpiece, Down were blown out of the water in the second half of this contest and lose their unbeaten league status in the process.
Daniel Goulding fired over eight points, seven from frees, and Pearse O’Neill netted an early goal but Down were far from beaten at the interval having managed 10 scores of their own.
But, after briefly drawing level at the start of the second half, James McCartan’s side were unable to live with Cork’s intensity once Colm O’Neill had raised the green flag for a second time.
Their cause wasn’t helped by the dismissal of Aidan Branagan for striking and the match was well and truly over before Paddy Kelly added a third and final goal in the dying seconds.
The return of snow to parts of the country, meanwhile, claimed its first high-profile fixture with tonight's Division Two game between Tyrone and Antrim in Omagh postponed due to an unplayable pitch.
Officials carried out a pitch inspection at Healy Park in Omagh this afternoon and took the decision to postpone the game match until 2.30 pm tomorrow afternoon. A further inspection will take place at 11am in the morning.
