The economic downturn could cause an upsurge in legal claims against businesses, Supermac’s CEO Pat McDonagh said today.

“In an economic downturn businesses need to be aware of the growth in claims culture, “ said Mr McDonagh.

“In our business, we would have seen a major growth in claims in the last six months, which wasn’t as prevalent in the last six years.

“The rise in claims culture arises from people seeing it as a solution to their economic woes”.

Mr McDonagh also said law firms were more likely to take on claims because of a sharp fall in business in the legal profession. “They are more likely to take on such cases as they have more time on their hands,” he added.
