An electronic sign on the outskirts of Blessington, Co Wicklow, is urging motorists to vote for Fine Gael MEP Avril Doyle in the forthcoming European Parliament elections.
The MEP last night said the sign is one "of about a dozen" placed around the East constituency: "I have received a very positive response to them from people. We have had loads of calls."
However, she said the siting of the transportable signs had been cleared with local gardaí and planning authorities by the Tipperary-based company responsible for the contract.
"I specifically made it clear that all of that should be sorted out. Of course, if anybody does have a problem with the locations chosen, of if they are improperly placed, we can move them, but they are a very reputable company and it was checked," she told The Irish Times.
Ms Doyle is running alongside Ms Mairead McGuinness.
