Gardaí in Limerick investigating the murder of a scaffolder at his home in John Carew Park in the city say they expect to send a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions in the coming weeks.
The investigation into the death of Patrick Coleman (33) took a dramatic twist on Monday afternoon when three teenage boys came forward to help gardaí with their inquiries.
The father of two, who was originally from Co Kildare, died from injuries he sustained during a random altercation as he walked on a roadway linking Childers Road and the city's Southern Ring Road.
Mr Coleman's body was discovered shortly after 1am on Monday when gardaí forced their way into his home at John Carew Park a short time after the alarm was raised by a friend of the dead man.
Postmortem results showed that Mr Coleman was stabbed with a blunt object during the altercation which happened just 100 yards from his home.
None of the teenage boys who presented themselves to gardaí was arrested, but gardaí described their coming forward as a "significant development" in the investigation.
The three youths, aged 15 and 16, were accompanied by their parents.
A large section of the John Carew Park estate remained sealed off last night as Garda search teams conducted detailed examinations of the area.
A number of items were removed from inside the cordon earlier in the week and these will now undergo detailed forensic analysis at Garda headquarters.
Meanwhile, Mr Coleman's body was removed from Cross's funeral home in Limerick last night ahead of his funeral Mass.
It will take place at St Joseph's church in Ballybrown this morning.
