The Director of Public Prosecutions is expected to make recommendations soon in the case of a young Dublin man who died from injuries received during a fracas outside the Burlington Hotel last August.

The DPP has spent the last three months studying a six-volume file of more than 800 pages on the incidents. Six hundred people who attended Anabel's disco in the hotel that night were questioned. It is understood that at least one young man may face a manslaughter charge.

At least three other people are expected to face charges of assault and affray arising out of the incident in which Brian Murphy (18), from Clonskeagh, Dublin, died. He was kicked in the chin and fell backwards, suffering head injuries.

Mr Murphy, who at one stage attended Gonzaga College, is understood to have become involved in an argument with two youths outside the disco and a fight began. Others then joined in. It is expected that one of Mr Murphy's friends may face affray charges.

Garda sources said there were a number of incidents earlier in the evening between youths from rugby-playing colleges during the disco.

Security staff stopped fighting from breaking out inside the disco earlier. During the evening the bar was selling alcohol at reduced prices as part of a promotion. There were two other separate incidents outside the disco that night and charges of affray may arise from these.
