BISHOP Brendan Comiskey has said he is "utterly and totally confident" that the newspaper stories which have appeared in his absence about his handling of financial matters can be explained.
I haven't the slightest qualms about coming back and taking on these stories, and I have asked people to help me prepare to answer these stories," he told RTE in a further excerpt from a phone interview recorded on Sunday, which was broadcast yesterday.
He asked why these questions had been raised persistently in his absence, when, "natural justice" would have demanded that he be there to answer them.
Bishop Comiskey asked why sections of the media "persist in publishing falsehoods with regard to me. I will release fully to the people of my diocese an explanation which I think they will find astonishing in view of the campaign of vilification which has been launched against me".
