The Archbishop of Dublin led prayers at a commemorative Mass at the weekend in the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin for the scenes witnessed in Omagh to "be never again repeated".
In a homily Dr Desmond Connell said the overwhelming support which people throughout the 32 counties had shown for the recent referendum proposals was heartening. This support gave the necessary democratic mandate for civil authorities to take exceptional measures of severity in response to the demand for peace.
