Gardaí in Donegal are investigating an incident in which graffiti was daubed on the walls of Fianna Fáil deputy Cecilia Keaveney's home and constituency office in Moville over the weekend.
A wall was daubed in blue paint with the message: "No samon no futcher (sic), thanks FF." Fianna Fáil politicians in Donegal have received a lot of criticism in recent days following the decision by the Government to end drift-net fishing.
A €30 million compensation fund is being set up but many fishermen in Donegal are furious about the move and its impact on the lives of people in coastal communities.
Ms Keaveney has expressed her disgust at the incident and says it does not reflect the type of people she represents. "This type of attack on my family home is totally unacceptable. A new and sinister type of approach to resolving issues is emerging in Donegal North East and I will not be intimidated or bullied by a minority of thugs."
Stressing that she did her best to fight the corner of the drift-net salmon fishermen, she added: "I will not be threatened by cowardly words or cowardly actions."
Some months ago a Fianna Fáil councillor in Moville, Marion McDonald, was threatened by an intruder at her home in relation to plans regarding a local sewerage scheme.
