A 4X4 DRIVER who forced his way into a line of traffic and used foul language to a woman motorist who told him she was reporting him to gardaí received convictions at Galway District Court yesterday.

Dara Larkin (34), Loughrea, Co Galway, denied breaching the peace by engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting words or behaviour at Moneenageisha, Co Galway, on November 7th, 2007.

He did plead guilty to driving without reasonable consideration for other motorists.

Marian Gilhooley gave evidence that she was in a line of slow-moving traffic when Larkin cut in, forcing her to stop.

She told him she was going to report him and he replied: “Would you ever f*** off.”

“I felt so intimidated, bullied and terrified because I had thought he was going to hit my car with his big jeep,” she said.

Judge Mary Fahy said the language Larkin used was abusive and had he come into court and apologised, she would have taken a different view and might not have convicted him.

The judge convicted Larkin of driving without reasonable consideration and breaching the peace. He was fined €250 for each offence and ordered to pay €100 witness’ expenses to Ms Gilhooley.
