The mother of an 18-year-old man who uses a wheelchair as the result of a car crash has called for justice after charges were dropped against the driver of the vehicle.

Mr Danny Walsh, of Ballyphehane, Cork city, spent two years in hospital following the crash on May 3rd, 1999.

Charges of dangerous driving against Mr John Paul Heffernan (20), of Mahon, Cork, were dropped yesterday at Cork Circuit Criminal Court as the result of a High Court ruling last March.

Mr Justice McCracken had ruled that he had no choice but to prohibit the prosecution of Mr Heffernan because further inspection could not be carried out on the car.

The case ended in Cork Circuit Court yesterday when charges against Mr Heffernan were formally dropped.

Mrs Julie Walsh said the lack of a prosecution in the case made her very frustrated and angry. "Danny spent four months in intensive care in a coma and two years and four months in hospital. But now we have no justice whatsoever."
