The family of a trawler skipper who drowned off the Wexford coast will meet the Minister of the State for Transport and officials to discuss the case later today. Ship's captain Glynn Cott (30), Ballycotton, in Cork, went down with his vessel, the Maggie B, five miles off the Hook Peninsula, on March 29th this year.
Of the three crew on board Krzysztof Pawtowski, from Poland, was the only survivor. He was rescued following heroic efforts by the Dunmore East lifeboat. However, Glynn and Polish crew man Jan Sankowski have not been seen since. The survivor said the vessel plunged to the bottom within 90 seconds - Glynn was last seen on the starboard side.
His family and girlfriend are campaigning for the fishing boat to be lifted off the sea bed to determine what caused the sinking and also to find Glynn's remains.
Glynn Cott's family has collected 5,000 signatures and lobbied politicians as part of their campaign. The family received word yesterday that Pat "The Cope" Gallagher would meet them in Dublin later today.
Sharon Cott, sister of the dead man, said "We are looking forward to the meeting - hopefully we will find out soon what happened to my brother.
"We are going to ask that the Maggie B is raised and that a dive survey is carried out around the vessel.
Elaine Hayes, Mr Cott's girlfriend, will accompany Sharon, her sister Anne Corrigan, his father Con, and mother Margaret, to the meeting.
