A convicted Cork drug dealer who refused to travel to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court because the social welfare office would not pay his fare is to be arrested.
Judge Cyril Kelly suggested David Broderick (20), of Mount Rivers, Carrigaline, needed the taxpayer's money just to get out of bed in the morning.
He directed gardai not to use any discretion in executing a bench warrant and to bring him before the court without delay.
Broderick was due to appear for review of the case in which he pleaded guilty on November 9th, 1995, to having almost 21 grams of cannabis resin for supply on July 3rd, 1994.
Sgt William Dooley said Broderick's mother telephoned Carrigaline Garda station at about the time the case was being called for review in court. She said her son had not travelled to Dublin because he had been refused his fare by the local social welfare office.
