A Belfast drugs dealer warned by police he was on a paramilitary hitlist has been jailed for 3 1/2 years for having 245 ecstasy tablets and 10 ozs of cannabis with intent to supply.

The Crown Court heard that Seamus Dowds (25) was caught redhanded when police raided his Sunnyside Street home in the Ormeau Road area of south Belfast on August 8th, 1995. A defence lawyer said Dowds sold drugs only to other known users, and had been warned he had come under the notice of paramilitaries, but Judge Peter Gibson said the supply of drugs was a "social evil" which could lead to death.
