Cork Hurling:Former Cork dual star Denis Walsh has been named as the new senior hurling manager and takes over from Gerald McCarthy after months of unrest in the county.
Walsh was chosen by a three-man committee comprising, Denis Coughlan (chairman), Jimmy Barry Murphy and John Fenton. The committee was appointed by GAA Central Council in the wake of the acrimonious resignation of McCarthy.
Walsh, 44, is a member of the St Catherine's club in East Cork and has won two senior hurling and two senior football All-Ireland medals with the Rebels.
He previously managed the Waterford senior football team from 2001-2003 and has also successfully managed at his own club.
Walsh will be officially unveiled in Cork next Monday. The exact details of his appointment have yet to be revealed but it is understood he is being given a two-year term.
Interim manager John Considine will still oversee this Sunday’s National League clash with Limerick.
