The Commission for Aviation Regulation has proposed increasing airport landing charges for airlines.
The commission has published a range of draft increase that will be finalised in October and hopes the new price cap will apply by January next year. A rise in charges could see a knock-on increase to flight prices to passengers.
At the moment Dublin Airport levies landing charges of €5.09 per person, but the commission said it could raise this to €7.01.
According to the commission, the rises will take account for spending plans at Dublin Airport.
Meanwhile, Fine Gael Transport Spokeswoman Olivia Mitchell described the proposals as regrettable.
"It is extremely regrettable that the Aviation Regulator should succumb to demands by Dublin Airport Authority to increase landing charges."
"Dublin Airport is currently profitable thanks to the huge demand for flights to and from the airport. Building a second terminal and an extra runway in Dublin will allow the airport to offer even more flights in the future, and the increased revenue will allow the Authority to pay for this expansion. However, raising landing charges, as proposed by the Aviation Regulator, could damage growth levels at the airport and would jeopardise funding for the second terminal and a new runway," she said.
