Over 14 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport during the first nine months of the year, representing a seven per cent increase over the same period last year.

Figures released by the Airport Authority show that the both the transatlantic and European markets performed strongly as traffic volumes rose by 16 per cent in both areas.

Some 971,460 passengers were recorded on transatlantic routes with good performances on the New York, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia routes in particular. European traffic benefited significantly from the 13 new routes and services launched during the year.

Domestic traffic fell by eight per cent to 481,469 passengers due largely to the growing number of routes oerating directly from Irish regional airports to Britain and other destinations.
