Almost 920,000 people will pass through Dublin airport over the Christmas period, making this festive season the busiest on record, according to the airport authority.
The airport will see a 15 per cent increase in passenger numbers on last year as more people than ever head home or on holiday, a spokeswoman said.
Friday December 23rd looks set to be the busiest day before Christmas, with 75,000 people expected to travel, while Friday December 30th should see more than 71,000 passengers at the airport, making it the busiest day after the break.
More than 300 charter flights have been added to the schedule for people heading to winter sun and ski destinations, including Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Innsbruck and Salzburg.
Holidaymakers are warned not to wrap Christmas presents they plan to carry in their luggage because they may be asked to open them by security officials at the airport.
They are also asked to allow plenty of time to get to the airport, check in and go through security.
To give the terminal a festive feel, it has been decorated and will have a music programme over the Christmas period, while staff will sing carols to raise funds for charity.
Art from an Christmas competition held in local schools is also on display in the arrivals hall.
