Dublin and Tyrone both suffered defeats in the aftermath of their fiercely contested battle in Omagh last week as Mayo shot to the top of the Allianz National Football League Division 1A today.

In Parnell Park Paul Caffrey’s side were second best to a classy Monaghan performance and only managed two points, one from play, in the second half.

Tommy Freeman was the star of the Monaghan show, running the Dublin defence ragged at times, and capped his day by firing a quality goal past the returning Stephen Cluxton.

Mayo managed another 1-15 for the second week in a row but were pushed all the way by Offaly, who led by a point at the break.

Mayo came out strong in the second half and scored 11 points, with Conor Mortimer scoring four to send Mayo top of the table.

Tyrone are now second from bottom after their second defeat in a week, this time to Fermanagh at Brewster Park.

The hosts trailed by two points at halftime but fought back well with points from Ciaran O’Reilly and Mark Little.

Tyrone fought back doggedly but fell just short despite points from Sean Cavanagh and Kevin Hughes.
