The Dublin county board has issued an apology to Thomas Freeman after the Monaghan player was allegedly head-butted at the end of last Sunday's fractious NFL clash.

Freeman is believed to have been struck by a member of Dublin's backroom staff in the immediate aftermath of the drawn encounter at Parnell Park.

Having undertaken an internal investigation, the Dublin board have identified the individual concerned and while they declined to name him in a statement released tonight, his name has been passed on to the GAA'S Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC).

Given that the CCCC launched their own investigation into the unsavoury incident earlier in the week, it would appear the Dublin official can expect to receive a lengthy ban should he be found guilty. He has already been disciplined by the Dublin board.

"The identity of the individual has been communicated to the Central Competitions Control Committee and disciplinary action has been taken," the statement released by Dublin county board secretary John Costello read.

"The Dublin county board, team management and the individual involved have personally apologised to Thomas Freeman and regret that the incident ever occurred."
