THE Customs authorities are linking the seizure of 40 kilograms of cannabis resin at Dublin Airport yesterday with the drugs haul in Blarney, Co Cork, on Thursday, writes Patsy McGarry.
The seizure at Dublin Airport followed co operation between members of the Inter Agency Task Force (customs officers and gardai) and the Spanish authorities.
Two suitcases, one containing 100 bars of resin and the other 56, were recovered from a Madrid flight, which landed at Dublin, via Stansted, at 6.10 a.m. A Spanish customs official was on board the flight supervising the suitcases, which he handed over to the Irish authorities.
A spokesman for the Revenue officials said they believed yesterday's haul valued at £400,000, and the drugs seized in Co Cork, valued at £600,000, were part of the same consignment.
Three men were released yesterday, and a file sent to the DPP, following the seizure of 60kg of cannabis resin at Vickerstown near the Cork town.
