Today the 14th Dublin Film Festival goes into the third of its 11 days with a varied international programme in which pride of place tonight goes to Neil Jordan's latest feature, In Dreams, a psychological horror movie set in Massachusetts and starring Annette Bening, Aidan Quinn, Robert Downey jnr and Stephen Rea.

The festival retrospective honouring the Oscar-winning Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci continues tomorrow with his superb Alberto Moravia adaptation, The Conformist, followed by The Spider's Stratagem (Monday) and Last Tango in Paris (Tuesday).

The international highlights during the week include Bryan Singer's Stephen King adaptation, Apt Pupil (Wednesday), with Ian McKellen and Brad Renfro; Greek director Theo Angelopoulos's Eternity and a Day (Thursday), the smouldering Australian gay drama, Head On (Thursday); the new film from cinematographer and director Chris Menges, The Lost Son (Friday), featuring Daniel Auteuil and Katrin Cartlidge; and, from the US, Sam Raimi's riveting moral drama, A Simple Plan with Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton.

New films of Irish interest include Declan Recks's Making Ends Meet (tomorrow) and Joe O'Byrne's Pete's Meteor (Friday) with Mike Myers and Brenda Fricker. For further information call (01) 605-6848.
