A food business in Dublin was ordered to close last month for serious breaches of food safety laws.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said a closure order was served by environmental health officers on Jokinn Holdings, 131 Parnell Street, Dublin 1.
Such an order is issued when there is, or is likely to be, a "grave and immediate danger to public health" at the premises, the FSAI said.
FSAI chief executive Dr John O'Brien said that food safety legislation sets minimum standards which industry must comply with and that closure orders "are not used for minor infringements.
"Every closure order undermines consumer confidence in food safety which affects not only the premises involved, but the industry as a whole," he said.
"Enforcement officers only resort to using these powers when standards have fallen very low. We are not out to persecute food operators, but they would be wise to take heed that enforcement powers will be used and premises named, if they do not operate to the required legal standard," Dr O'Brien said.
