A Dublin gang is believed to have got away with thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and cash in robberies in Co Limerick.

The robberies took place over the last fortnight, and the single biggest haul was £30,000 worth of jewellery and cash from a house in the Rathkeale area. In the same district they seized two guns, a rifle and a shotgun from a farmer's house which were held legally.

A dozen houses were robbed in Bruff, Croome, Doon and Newport, and the gang was disturbed in at least 12 more attempts.

They were using a car stolen in Co Meath and targeted mainly vacant houses in Limerick, Cork, Tipperary and other areas.
