Disposable income per person in the wider Dublin region is more than 13 per cent above the State average, according to the Central Statistics Office.

The latest figures show the Dublin region had the highest disposable income per person of the eight regional authority areas in 2002.

Disposable income in the Border, midland and western regions was over 8 per cent below the State average while incomes in the southern and eastern regions were on average 3 per cent above the norm.

However  the gap of 11.2 points between the two regions represents a decrease on the gap of 12 points in 2001 and 13.4 points in 2000.

The disposable income per person in the Border region was 10.2 per cent below the State average and was the lowest of the eight regional authority areas.

At a county level, the only areas which recorded had an average disposable income per person in excess of the state average were Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and Limerick.

At the lower end of the scale the county with the lowest disposable income was Donegal which was below 85 per cent of the State average. Cavan, Leitrim, Kerry were also below 90% of the State average.
