IRISH PEOPLE IN PARIS:FRESH OUT of NCAD, where she graduated this summer, Aisling Connell from Knocklyon is wielding a camera at the Paris shows and reporting for Diane Pernet's "A shaded view on fashion" blog.
The tall, black-clad Paris-based fashion filmmaker with her signature mantilla is a familiar figure at international catwalk shows, and Connell is in the middle of a three-month internship with her. She will be staying in Paris sharing a flat in République with two other NCAD graduates until Christmas, and after that may head to New York. “I want to design and if I were to go back to Dublin, I would want to start my own thing.”
Her graduate collection – called Mother Reaction, in white, silver and navy in which she screen-printed her own patterns – led to an internship with sustainable designer Christopher Raeburn in London.
“I found it very exciting and being backstage is a different aspect of fashion – this whole glamour thing is quite new to me,” she says.
