Dublin has joined New York as the joint-13th most expensive city in the world in which to live, according to an annual study of global living costs.

The Mercer Worldwide Cost of Living Survey also found that Dublin is the eighth most expensive city in Europe.

The most expensive city in the world was found to be Tokyo, followed by Osaka. London was found to be the third-most expensive, dropping one place, followed by Moscow.

London, Copenhagen, and Paris were the three European capitals found to be more expensive than Dublin in Europe.

Asuncion in Paraguay was found to be the least expensive city in the world.

The survey covered 144 cities, and as a starting point New York was given a base city scoring of 100 points

The study is used by multinational companies and governments to estimate the allowances and expenses they should pay expatriate employees.
