A Dublin-based technology firm is to double its workforce as part of a €3 million expansion to allow it to compete for large IT services contracts in Europe.

Origina, which is based in Sandyford and currently employs 60 people, said it plans to hire another 60 skilled technology and consulting staff over the coming two years.

A spokesman for the company said it had turnover of "around €12 million" last year and said that the European market offered "excellent growth potential".

Managing director Tomas O'Leary said IT functions and strategic data storage are becoming increasingly important.

Today the company also changed its name from Unitech Systems a decision taken so that its Irish and UK offices operate under one name. Less than ten of the new staff will be based in the UK with the remainder being based in Dublin.
