A young Dublin man had died following an accident on a beach in Thailand. Mr Aidan Kelly (20), Donnybrook, Dublin, was killed last Friday evening after he was apparently electrocuted by a cable on the holiday resort island of Kho Pangan.
It is believed the cable was attached to electrical equipment being used by a café facility on the beach. Local police are understood to be treating the incident as an accident and have ruled out foul play.
Arrangements are being made, with the assistance of the Irish consul in Thailand, to fly the body back to Dublin as soon as possible.
Mr Kelly, a student with two siblings, had been on a six-week holiday to Thailand with a group of friends.
A spokesman for the family said the incident appeared to have been a "freak, tragic accident".
Last December, an Irishman was killed in a fire at a similar Thai holiday resort. Jeffrey Gerard Scanlon (29) died after a fire engulfed a row of beach huts on the island of Koh Chang, east of Bangkok.
