A Dublin man was found guilty of murder on Saturday at a special sitting of the Central Criminal Court. Stephen Doyle (24), of Balcurris Road, Ballymun, was found guilty by a majority verdict of 11 to one of the murder of Mr John Murray at a house at Parslickstown Green, Mulhuddart, Dublin, on January 15th, 1998.
He was also unanimously found guilty of violent disorder on the same date.
A co-accused, William Broderick (22), of Cathedral View Walk, was found not guilty of the murder of Mr Murray but guilty of violent disorder.
Doyle entered the Mulhuddart house looking for a man believed to have been sexually molesting his daughter, about which he had a fixation. He had asked Broderick and a number of other men to accompany him to the house.
Thanking the jury for its efforts, Mr Justice McCracken said it had been a difficult case and members had "all performed a very unpleasant civic duty and performed it well with a great deal of thought".
Probation reports were ordered on both Broderick and Doyle. Broderick was remanded on bail while Doyle was put on remand until sentencing on May 2nd.
