Dublin man is critical after feud shooting

A MAN is critical but stable following a shooting in a Dublin suburb early yesterday morning

A MAN is critical but stable following a shooting in a Dublin suburb early yesterday morning. The attack is believed to be part of a feud in which one man has already died and shots were fired at a number of houses in Blanchardstown.

Three men, wearing balaclavas and using mountain bikes, singled out the man from a group which had gathered in front of a house at 12.20 a.m.

One fired a pump action shotgun at Mr Paul Daly (34), of Sheepmore Drive. He received serious thigh injuries and was rushed by ambulance to James Connolly Memorial hospital, where he is in intensive care.

Gardai believe the shooting is connected to a local feud involving the death three weeks ago of Mr David Cunningham (19). He was stabbed to death at Sheepmore Lawn and his body left beside a lap post.

He was a son of Mrs Joan Cunningham, who recently received over £5,000 donated through the Gay Byrne Show to help avoid the family's eviction.

Two other shootings later occurred in the area. Shots were fired into houses at Fortlawn Park and Fortlawn Avenue. No one was injured in either incident.

The first occurred at 12.35 a.m. when shots were fired through the front sitting room window of a house at Fortlawn park.

At 3.35 a.m., shots were fired through the front living room window of a house at Fort lawn Avenue. It is believed all three incidents are linked.

A man was being questioned by gardai in Cabra yesterday in connection with the incident at Fortlawn Park. He was arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be held for 48 hours.
