A man who took part in an armed robbery has been sentenced to a total of eight years imprisonment by Judge Joseph Mathews at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Anthony Keegan (25), of Lansdowne Valley, Dublin, plead ed guilty to stealing cash and cigarettes at the Texaco service station on the Naas Road on September 24th, 1996. He also admitted helping a 15-year-old relative to escape from Trinity House detention centre in Lusk on January 14th, 1997. Keegan further admitted being a passenger in a stolen BMW on April 28th, 1997.

Judge Mathews said that heroin addiction was at the core of the case. He imposed six years for the robbery and car offences and a consecutive two-year term for aiding the escape.

The judge said that he would give Keegan an incentive to reform by suspending the escape sentence and listing the case for possible review in April, 2000.
