A blind man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a 60-year-old man in Dublin’s south inner city last year.
Michael Byrne (37) of Clonard Road, Crumlin, was charged with murdering Denis Brennan at Bow Bridge complex, Kilmainham between July 5th and July 8th, 2008.
Byrne's plea of not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter was accepted at the Central Criminal Court today.
Defence barrister Isobel Kennedy SC told Mr Justice Paul Carney that her client was now legally blind and, as a result, was finding it difficult to sign on daily. He was wearing dark glasses in court and using a cane for the blind.
Mr Justice Carney remanded him on continuing bail until sentencing on July 27th.
