A machine driver has been convicted by a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jury of dangerous driving causing the death of a Galway woman three years ago.
Anthony Dean (28), Boyne Court, Harold's Cross, Dublin, and Cypress Downs, Templeogue, Dublin, was remanded on continuing bail by Judge Elizabeth Dunne for sentence on December 10th.
The father of one had pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Clodagh Doyle at Mount Argus Road, Dublin, in the early hours of October 17th, 2001.
The jury spent three hours deliberating before reaching its unanimous verdict on day three of the trial.
Ms Doyle (22), Threadneedle Road, Salthill, Galway, was walking on the footpath when a four-wheel drive driven by Dean struck her.
She suffered a fractured pelvis with some other injuries to her right thigh and died some days later in hospital from a septic infection.
Dean told the jury he had no memory of being in his vehicle before the accident other than seeing "bright lights" in his eyes before the accident and this had annoyed him.
