Dublin marathon to cause major traffic disruption on Monday

Over 8,500 people are expected to take part in 98FM's Dublin City Marathon 2000 on bank holiday Monday.

Over 8,500 people are expected to take part in 98FM's Dublin City Marathon 2000 on bank holiday Monday.

It starts from the Four Courts and extends over 26 miles to south and west Dublin before finishing at the Smithfield Plaza. The event will cause major traffic disruption. Runners begin at 8.30 a.m.; wheelchair participants at 8.20 a.m.

Roads on the route will be closed for approximately four to six hours, beginning at 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the start in the city centre; 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. along the middle of the route; and 10 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. near the finish.

Traffic will also be restricted from 8.45 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on Donnybrook Road, Morehampton Road, Mespil Road, Leeson Street Lower, St Stephen's Green South, Cuffe Street, Kevin Street, The Coombe, South Circular Road; and from 9.15 a.m. to 2.10 p.m. on Clanbrassil Street, Harold's Cross Road, Terenure Road West, Greenlea Road, Fortfield Road, Templeville Road, Whitehall Road, Kimmage Road West.

Restrictions on traffic will begin from 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Cromwellsfort Road, Walkinstown Road, Drimnagh Road, Cooley Road, Davitt Road; and from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on Suir Road, South Circular Road, Inchicore Road, Sarsfield Road, Chapelizod Road, Conyngham Road, Wolfe Tone Quay and Ellis Quay.

A children's marathon, the Minithon, for nine- to 15-yearolds, will also take place on Monday, starting at 9 a.m. from Church Street to O'Connell Street and back.
