Gaelic Games:Goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton has been named as captain of the Dublin senior football team, taking over from Bryan Cullen for the coming year.
The 31-year-old schoolteacher is now in his 12th season in a Dublin shirt, and previously captained the Ireland International Rules side on their victorious tour of Australia in 2011.
The Parnells player, who kicked the winning point in Dublin’s All-Ireland success in 2011, admitted he took time in making his decision having been asked by new Dublin manager Jim Gavin.
Speaking after Dublin’s six-point victory over Cork in the National League opener at Croke Park on Saturday night, Cluxton said: “I had a good think about it. Jim assured me of my role so I was happy enough to take it on board. Hopefully I’ll do the job that he requested.”
