Dublin port faces action by hauliers

Road hauliers are threatening to withdraw from South Quay Terminal, Dublin, from tomorrow morning, writes Padraig Yeates

Road hauliers are threatening to withdraw from South Quay Terminal, Dublin, from tomorrow morning, writes Padraig Yeates. The are protesting at a refusal by port companies to introduce 12-hour opening for freight collections and deliveries.

The Irish Road Hauliers Association is not involved in the dispute but a spokesman said last night that action is expected by many hauliers, most of whom are not in the association.

Meanwhile, SIPTU dockers in the port are to meet this week to consider a Labour Court proposal to resolve their long-running dispute with OML Ltd over the use of new recruits. If the court's proposals are rejected it could see a resumption of strike action on the North Quays.
